Seattle Sounders' Obafemi Martins captures MLS Goal of the Year honors
In a week where he missed out on Major League Soccer's MVP award and saw his side fall to the Los Angeles Galaxy in the Western Conference final, Obafemi Martins has received a morale boost after his chip from Week 11 was named the 2014 Goal of the Year.
Martins' remarkable effort was the lone goal in the Seattle Sounders' 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes and, simply put, his first touch left 'keeper Jon Busch looking foolish.
MLSsoccer.com staff selected Martins' chip from a field of 64 goals, 32 of which were Goal of the Week winners. The designated player from Nigeria received over 50 percent of the votes in the final round, defeating goals from the New York Red Bulls' Thierry Henry, the Portland Timbers' Will Johnson and the New England Revolution's Lee Nguyen.
