Whitecaps and Earthquakes play to 0-0 draw
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - David Ousted made three saves and the Vancouver Whitecaps tied the San Jose Earthquakes 0-0 on Saturday night to regain sole possession of the fifth and final Western Conference playoff position.
The Whitecaps (11-8-14) moved a point ahead of the Portland Timbers, who played a scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake on Friday night, with each team having one game left. Next Saturday night, Vancouver is home against Colorado, and Portland is at FC Dallas.
Goalkeeper Jon Busch made a number of critical plays, especially in the second half, to preserve the draw for San Jose (6-15-12) which snapped the Whitecaps three-game winning streak.
The Quakes played their final match at Buck Shaw Stadium in front of a sellout crowd. They will be moving to their new stadium next year.
