Few American footballers carry the celebrity status that Clint Dempsey does.

But of course - because soccer culture is still evolving in the United States - Dempsey is able to walk down the streets of New York without being instantly recognized by passersby. This despite the fact he guided the United States men's national team out of a World Cup group that contained the likes of Germany, Portugal, and Ghana, before falling 2-1 to Belgium in extra time in the round of 16.
