Chivas USA-Toronto FC Preview

Michael Bradley unleashed his frustration after Toronto FC's winless streak extended to six games following a controversial call.

The star midfielder and his teammates will try to end that stretch of futility Sunday against visiting Chivas USA, which has the difficult task of trying to snap a five-game losing streak without leading scorer Erick Torres.

Toronto (9-11-7) appeared to end its winless streak when Gilberto scored in the 90th minute against Chicago on Sept. 13, but it was disallowed when referee David Gantar said the forward committed a foul. That led to some harsh words from Bradley after the 1-all tie.

"To have two points taken away from you, it's just not good enough," Bradley said. "The league can make all the excuses they want ... At the end of the day, it's just not even close to being good enough because consistently they put referees out there that are just in over their head. It's a shame because they ruin games."

MLS commissioner Don Garber said Thursday that Gantar "did not get it right," but that's likely little consolation to a team that's outside the playoff cutoff.

Toronto, the lone MLS team that has never reached the postseason, will try to get its playoff push in gear against a club that's dealing with an uncertain future and a difficult present.

Chivas (6-16-6) has been outscored 24-3 while going 0-9-1 since July 20, and 15-2 in five consecutive losses - its longest skid since a franchise record-tying seven-gamer in 2013. The Western Conference's last-place team was routed 4-0 by Sporting Kansas City on Sept. 12.

"We're in a tough spot right now, but the important thing is that we have honorable men in this locker room and we are going to turn it around," midfielder Marvin Chavez said. "It's about continuing to work and continuing to persevere, above all."

Garber revealed Thursday that it's unclear if the club will play in MLS in 2015 or subsequent seasons. The decision won't come until a new owner is in place.

"We expect to be able to close an agreement by the end of the season," Garber said. ''Once we get an ownership group in place, we'll sit down with them and make a decision as to whether or not we're going to keep that team operating in 2015 and beyond."

Torres, among the league leaders with 14 goals, was suspended for an additional game by the league Sept. 3 for his "serious foul play" in a 3-0 loss to Los Angeles on Aug. 31, which got him his first career red card.

Torres scored in a 1-0 win in Chivas' most recent matchup with Toronto on July 17, 2013. His club has won the last three in the series and has outscored TFC 9-1 while going 4-0-1 in the last five meetings. However, it is 1-2-1 in its last four visits to Toronto.

This is the only matchup between the clubs this season.
