Giovinco returns to Toronto FC training after leg setback
Sebastian Giovinco is back in Toronto FC training after suffering a leg contusion during the club's second match of the MLS season at the Philadelphia Union.
Manager Greg Vanney confirmed the news following Tuesday's practice.
The Italian returns during the international break, meaning he has a generous 10 days to recuperate before the squad welcomes Sporting Kansas City to BMO Field for the 2017 campaign's home opener.
The injury was sustained after a sobering challenge from Oguchi Onyewu as the match ticked toward halftime with TFC trailing 1-0 at the Talen Energy Stadium. The match eventually ended in a 2-2 draw, with Toronto holding a lead for merely two minutes after a Jozy Altidore penalty and Justin Morrow finish had given the visitor the lead.
Toronto made the most of a numerical advantage following Brek Shea's sending off to overcome the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 in British Columbia on Saturday, and is currently positioned fourth in the Eastern Conference after one win and two draws.
