Freddy Adu to train with Timbers during preseason
The Portland Timbers announced Wednesday that Major League Soccer's youngest ever scorer Freddy Adu will join the team's preseason training sessions.
Adu is expected to link up with the Timbers this week at the team's training base in Tucson, Ariz.
The 27-year-old, who played with the Tampa Bay Rowdies of the NASL last season, has not played in the league since a two-year stint with the Philadelphia Union, which ended in 2013.
Despite becoming the league's youngest goal scorer, Adu has only managed to play 13 MLS matches since he was drafted at the age of 14 in 2004 by D.C. United.
He departed for Europe in 2007 when he signed on with Portuguese side Benfica. However, his time there was brief as the club shipped him off on loan on several occasions before his return to the United States in 2011.
The Timbers could potentially be Adu's 13th professional club if he impresses and signs a contract.
