FC Dallas: 'There is no deal to transfer Fabian Castillo'

The saga of Fabian Castillo's future took another twist on Monday.

After Taylor Twellman of ESPN reported that Castillo's transfer to Trabzonspor was "dead," FC Dallas confirmed the Colombian winger will continue to take the pitch in Major League Soccer.

Brian Straus of Sports Illustrated alleged one week ago that Castillo's transfer to Trabzonspor was "imminent," and a video subsequently surfaced of what appeared to be the 24-year-old arriving at a Turkish airport. Then, on Sunday, the player was omitted from Dallas' team sheet in the club's fixture against the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Oscar Pareja, Dallas' manager who plucked Castillo from Deportivo Cali in 2011, blamed the omission on "negotiations surrounding his contract."

Those negotiations, however, look to be over.

After initially struggling to find his voice at Dallas due to a lack of end product, Castillo finally started living up to the hype in 2014, exploding for 10 goals and four assists as Dallas reached the Western Conference Semifinals. He improved on those numbers in 2015, tallying nine goals and nine assists as the club reached the Western Conference Championship.

This year, Castillo boasts five goals and five assists through 22 appearances, as well as a phenomenal goal he scored in July to send Dallas to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals.
