Galaxy's De Jong handed extra game suspension for red card
No stranger to robust tackles and the dark arts of football, LA Galaxy midfielder Nigel De Jong has been slapped with a one-match suspension for a red card on Vancouver striker Blas Perez in the 74th minute of a 2-0 victory over the Whitecaps on July 4.
The MLS' Disciplinary Committee came to a unanimous decision on De Jong, announcing Wednesday that the 31-year-old Dutch international would serve an additional ban, according to a statement on the league's website.
A red card carries with it a one-match ban, which De Jong served during LA's 1-0 victory at Seattle on Saturday, though the committee deemed his tackle dangerous enough to merit an extended suspension.

De Jong, who made the North American switch in January after four years with AC Milan, will now miss out on the Galaxy's clash with the Houston Dynamo at the StubHub Centre on Friday.
This isn't De Jong's first brush with disciplinary issues during his MLS tenure after he was suspended for three matches for a violent tackle on Portland Timbers star and U.S. international Darlington Nagbe in April.
