LA Galaxy midfielder-cum-forward Mike Magee has fanned the flames ahead of his side's trip to the Seattle Sounders, saying their West Conference rivals are "a little jealous" of them.

The Sounders quickly established themselves as one of the biggest teams in Major League Soccer since their inaugural 2009 season, quickly vaulting to the top of the average attendance numbers and winning the Supporters' Shield in 2014.

But ultimately, the Galaxy have picked up their third, fourth, and fifth MLS Cups since the Sounders' inception.

"When they came into the league, I think they (the Sounders) called us out," said 31-year-old Magee ahead of Saturday's contest. "They challenged us, it didn't work out well for them and they're still trying to be what the Galaxy is.

"They're doing a great job. They have great fans and a great team. But I'd say - to be honest - they are a little bit jealous."

Sigi Schmid's side has had a torrid start to the season, sitting in ninth and some five places and nine points short of the Galaxy. He can welcome back Clint Dempsey for the weekend's rivals' bout, however, in his return after Copa America Centenario duty with the United States.

"We've got a series of big games," Schmid said of upcoming tilts against the Galaxy, FC Dallas, and the Portland Timbers. "I know they were in different competitions but we've had three positive results in our last three outings.

"So we're going to be ready to play and put our stamp on the game and compete."
