Top 5 goals from MLS Week 7

Reuters

Week 7 of the 2016 MLS season produced another slate of excellent strikes, including plenty of noteworthy efforts from some of the league's most established poachers not named Bradley Wright-Phillips.

Here are the five goals we ranked best of the bunch from Week 7 of the 2016 MLS season:

5. Welcome to MLS, Jordan Morris

Sound the trumpets - Jordan Morris has arrived at long last. This young Seattle Sounders star came into the league publicized as the next Landon Donovan, heralded for his national team form, and bearing upon his shoulders the weight of the now-departed Obafemi Martins.

Fitting, then, that his first goal was a thing of beauty; a goal born of wit, physical prowess, and a touch of cheek.

4. David Villa's Spanish connection

New York City FC forward David Villa headed home this nifty little goal against the Columbus Crew courtesy of a delicious cross sent in by Spanish compatriot Andoni Iraola. The Iberian duo then spent the night sipping sangria and listening to the sweet pang of a steel-string Spanish guitar (we hope).

3. Stars align for Giovani Dos Santos

LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has been under fire during his time in the California sun, but there was no faulting the former Liverpool skipper on this play against the Houston Dynamo. Gerrard found Giovani Dos Santos with an inch-perfect long cross and the Mexican international finished the play with equal parts skill and poise.

2. Didier Drogba returns with a roar

For those who doubted Montreal Impact star Didier Drogba, let this backheel goal serve as a reminder that the former Chelsea man remains, to this day, one of the finest finishers in all the lands. It would be the goal of the week, if not for the contributions of another Impact star.

1. Ignacio Piatti one-ups Kennedy Igboananike

Chicago Fire forward Kennedy Igboananike probably deserved praise for scoring an audacious goal from a looping shot at the edge of the box, but as it stands, his effort will remain largely ignored due to the fact that Montreal's Ignacio Piatti replicated it in stoppage time from even further out to give his team all three points.
