Mets' Wright intends to return to game action Monday

David Wright is set to take his first real at-bats of the spring Monday as the New York Mets slowly work the 33-year-old back into the lineup.

The third baseman missed four months last season with spinal stenosis, and the club is treading carefully to avoid re-aggravating the condition, with Wright indicating that he'll take some at-bats in minor-league camp next week.

"Our medical staff, the coaching staff obviously, have been taking it slowly with me," Wright told ESPN's Adam Rubin. "They want to see me do different things. It's not like they're letting me do everything in one day. It's, 'Today we're going to do this. If you do good with that, tomorrow we're going to do this.' Kind of a progression.

"I think I'm at the point now where I'd like to move forward as much as possible, or as much as they let me. I think the first step with that, what Terry and I talked about, was possibly going and getting some at-bats over on the minor-league side."

The seven-time All-Star only appeared in 38 games for the Mets last season, but managed to hit .289/.379/.434 in 152 at-bats in 2015.
