Parker's career in jeopardy after re-fracturing elbow
Jarrod Parker has sustained another devastating injury, after an MRI revealed he's re-fractured his right elbow.
The Oakland Athletics righty was attempting to stage a comeback this spring, but re-injured his elbow on the 12th pitch of a simulated game Thursday. The injury was initially diagnosed as a lateral elbow impingement.
Parker's long list of injuries also includes a pair of Tommy John surgeries, making another comeback highly unlikely after the significant wear and tear on his arm. He initially fractured his elbow while on rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville last season.
"It's just devastating for him," Athletics general manager David Forst told the San Francisco Chronicle's Ann Killion. "He's worked hard twice to come back. He was emotional about it."
The 27-year-old hurler has not pitched in the majors since the 2013 playoffs, and owns a 25-16 record with a 3.68 ERA in 62 career starts.
