Milwaukee Brewers general manager David Stearns has made another move for the future this offseason, trading outfielder Khris Davis to the Oakland Athletics for a pair of prospects.

Davis, who hit .247/.323/.505 with 27 homers and 66 RBIs in 121 games for Milwaukee last season, will compete with the oft-injured Coco Crisp for the starting job in left field this spring. The speedy Billy Burns is likely to patrol center field, while Josh Reddick is a mainstay in right field.

Davis' departure should clear the path for Brewers prospect Domingo Santana to get some significant playing time in left field this season.

Catcher Jacob Nottingham and right-hander Bubba Derby are going back the other way to the Brewers.

Nottingham, 20, was a sixth-round selection of the Houston Astros in the 2013 draft. He hit .316/.372/.505 with 17 homers and 82 RBIs between two minor-league levels, finishing the year with the Lancaster JetHawks of the California League.

Derby, 21, was selected in the sixth round by the Athletics in the 2015 draft. He compiled a 1-1 record with a 1.21 ERA and 0.91 WHIP across 14 appearances at two levels in the minors. Bubba, whose actual first name is Bowdien, finished 2015 throwing for Short Season-A Vermont.

Oakland designated left-hander Sean Nolin for assignment to clear a spot for Davis on its 40-man roster.
