N.Y. stadiums facing possible smokeless tobacco ban

Yankee Stadium and Citi Field could be the next two stadiums to ban the use of smokeless tobacco.

New York City Council member Corey Johnson is set to introduce a bill on Friday that would ban the product from both stadiums and other public areas in the city, according to Tim Rohan of The New York Times.

According to Johnson, both the Mets and Yankees have given their support to the bill, which would prohibit people from having smokeless tobacco on the field and in the clubhouse.

Chewing tobacco and all smokeless tobacco products were banned at Fenway Park and all other Boston sports venues in September, and California lawmakers passed a bill of their own on the issue in May.
