VIDEO: Padres bring Rodney's save celebration to life

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Though the upcoming season will likely be rough for the San Diego Padres, at least Fernando Rodney will be around to keep things entertaining for the rebuilding club.

On Thursday, two weeks after reportedly agreeing to terms with the veteran reliever, the Padres announced their new one-year deal with Rodney, and welcomed the 38-year-old to San Diego with an expertly tweaked video of his signature save celebration.

Rodney, who will reportedly make $1.65 million this season with an additional $5 million available in incentives, is expected to replace Craig Kimbrel as the Padres' closer despite stumbling through a rough 2015 campaign. Though he logged more saves than every closer in baseball except Kimbrel from 2012 to 2014, Rodney lost his ninth-inning job with the Seattle Mariners early last season, and ended up fashioning a 4.74 ERA with a 1.40 WHIP over 68 appearances split between Seattle and the Chicago Cubs.

Year(s) ERA K% BB% HR/9
2012-2014 2.21 27.3% 9.2% 0.35
2015 4.74 20.9% 10.5% 1.29
