Athletics' Vogt out 4-6 weeks after elbow surgery

Oakland Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt will miss up to six weeks of action following successful arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow, the team announced Friday.

Vogt is expected to be healthy for Opening Day, but his recovery timetable suggests he'll miss a few weeks of spring training.

Athletics general manager David Forst says a recent MRI revealed bone chips in Vogt's throwing elbow, prompting him to undergo surgery immediately so the discomfort wouldn't linger into the regular season.

A first-time All-Star in 2015, the 31-year-old slashed .261/.341/.443 with 18 home runs and 71 RBIs in 136 contests for Oakland last season. He was especially hot prior to the All-Star break, hitting .287/.374/.498 with 14 homers.

Vogt will be first-time arbitration eligible following the 2016 campaign, and is under team control through the 2019 season.
