Busch Stadium getting state-of-the-art videoboards

Some major upgrades are coming to the home of the St. Louis Cardinals.

Prior to 2016's first pitch being thrown, Busch Stadium is going to install a pair of new high definition LED videoboards, plus stadium-wide Wi-Fi will become a reality to enhance the fan experience.

The new main videoboard will be nearly three times the size of the existing screen and the out-of-town scoreboard will double in size, while both will show obvious improvements in resolution and brightness.

"We'll be right up there with the best of them now," Joe Abernathy, the Cardinals vice president of stadium operations, told MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch. "It's amazing how technology has evolved in 10 short years. Technology has progressed considerably since we put this in (original videoboard) back in April 2006."

Abernathy said the renovations will help the organization compete with other major-league ballparks, especially after the recent facelift to Wrigley Field, home of St. Louis' bitter division rival, the Chicago Cubs.

"But we did get upset actually when the Cubs had a better videoboard than us," Abernathy said. "Especially with how it ended (in the National League Division Series) and all they're doing now, we don't want to be sitting behind the Cubs in anything."

The stadium upgrades should be complete in time for the Cardinals' home opener April 11 versus the Milwaukee Brewers.
