Report: White Sox claim Sands off waivers

David Richard / USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago White Sox reportedly claimed outfielder Jerry Sands off waivers from the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.

Sands was designated for assignment last week in order to make room on the 40-man roster for reliever Dan Otero.

The 28-year-old hit .236/.286/.390 with four home runs in 50 games last season with Cleveland, playing in left field, right field, and first base. Sands owns a .238/.307/.378 slash line across 132 major-league games.
