Although he wasn't extended a qualifying offer, David Freese looks set to return to the City of Angels.

Freese and the Los Angeles Angels are reportedly progressing in negotiations that would see the third baseman return to Angel Stadium in 2016, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Freese has slashed .258/.322/.401 (106 OPS+) over two seasons in Los Angeles, but was limited to 121 games last year after fracturing his right hand during a game against the Minnesota Twins in July.

Despite the injury, Freese hit 14 homers and posted a .743 OPS in 2015, his best power numbers since the 2012 season.

The 32-year-old has spent the past two seasons with the Angels after coming over from the St. Louis Cardinals in a trade in November 2013.
