On Tuesday, the attorney for Jose Reyes entered a not guilty plea stemming from an incident in which the Colorado Rockies shortstop was arrested and charged for domestic abuse, following an altercation with his wife on Halloween.

Reyes wasn't present, and his next court date is scheduled for Jan. 14, 2016, the Maui County deputy prosecuting attorney told Kerry Glen of the New York Daily News.

The 32-year-old Reyes allegedly grabbed his wife by the throat and shoved her into the glass balcony door of the hotel where they were staying while on vacation in Hawaii. Security was called and Reyes was arrested, and later released on $1,000 bail. Reyes' wife, Katherine, told police she suffered injuries to her thigh, neck, and wrist.

Major League Baseball also launched its own investigation, and Reyes could face additional discipline from the league under its newly implemented Joint Domestic Violence Policy.

Reyes, a 13-year veteran in the majors, was acquired by the Rockies in July, and is owed $48 million over the next two seasons.
