Conflicting reports on Coyotes' pursuit of Alex Anthopoulos

When it was announced Alex Anthopoulos would vacate his role as general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays, few expected he would be unemployed for long.

But a recent report suggests Sporting News' reigning MLB Executive of the Year may see his next job opportunity outside of baseball.

Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun reported Saturday that the Arizona Coyotes have reached out to Anthopoulos, hoping he would consider taking on a senior position or a consulting role with the hockey club.

The Coyotes' call came immediately after he left the Blue Jays, and apparently caught the 38-year-old "by complete surprise," as he's never been involved in hockey.

Meanwhile, Arizona Sports' Craig Morgan reports Monday that the Coyotes are not, in fact, pursuing Anthopoulos.

Anthopoulos knows current Coyotes assistant general manager John Chayka for his analytics work, according to Simmons. He has reportedly received calls from multiple other sports teams and media outlets regarding "future plans."

The Montreal native held the GM role in Toronto from 2009 to 2015, and was instrumental in assembling the team that brought playoff baseball back north of the border for the first time since 1993.
