The San Diego Padres made some moves Tuesday, exercising their 2016 team option on reliever Joaquin Benoit, while declining an option on shortstop Clint Barmes.

Benoit, 38, had his $8-million option - which was later reported by MLB.com's Corey Brock as an adjustment to $7.5 million - picked up after posting a 2.34 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 67 games for San Diego. The veteran pitched in a set-up role for closer Craig Kimbrel.

The 36-year-old Barmes will receive a $200,000 buyout after having his $2-million option declined by the club.

Barmes appeared in just 98 games for the Padres, hitting .232/.281/.353 with three home runs and 16 RBIs, while battling a groin injury.
