White Sox GM confirms Ventura will return as manager in 2016

The Chicago White Sox disappointing season will not cost manager Robin Ventura his job.

General manager Rick Hahn confirmed Friday that the skipper will return in 2016. However, the team did part ways with bench coach Mark Parent earlier in the day.

Despite an offseason that saw the front office spend big in hopes of reaching the postseason for the first time since 2008, the White Sox enter the final weekend of the season 11 games under .500.

"Fundamentally the players didn't achieve in the way I expected them to," Hahn said. "I put that on me."

Over the last four seasons with Ventura at the helm, the White Sox are 295-350. They've finished with a losing record in each of the last three campaigns, something Ventura takes personally.

"I grew up a White Sox person," he told reporters. "I became an adult as a (member of the) White Sox, so it's important to me. I take it personal and it’s hard especially when it goes like this."

In spite of the losing, Hahn praised Ventura's strong ability to communicate with his players, but admitted there's room for improvement - improvement Hahn said will take place through a number of player transactions in the offseason.

"Robin's strengths are in the communication and environment he creates for those players that allows them to maximize their abilities," Hahn said.

"Again there is room for improvement from a tactical standpoint and even from an off the field standpoint. Robin is embracing the opportunity to show that improvement."
