Blue Jays' Encarnacion aggravates finger injury, considered day to day
Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Edwin Encarnacion aggravated a previous finger injury in the club's 10-7 victory in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with the New York Yankees, and is considered day to day.
Manager John Gibbons revealed postgame that Encarnacion tweaked his left middle finger on a swing in the sixth inning, which led to his exit from the contest shortly thereafter.
"We'll see. Hopefully it's not long," Gibbons said.
The slugger initially jammed the finger just after the All-Star break and missed a handful of games.
Encarnacion is hitting .271 with 32 homers and 99 RBIs in 128 games, and his injury likely means more playing time for Chris Colabello and Justin Smoak in the days to come.
Toronto's doubleheader sweep over the Yankees came at a huge cost, as All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki also suffered a shoulder injury.
