Tigers designate Joba Chamberlain for assignment

Detroit Tigers right-hander Joba Chamberlain was designated for assignment Friday, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.
Analysis:
He has a 4.09 ERA and just 15 strikeouts in 22 innings of relief this year, making him expendable as the Tigers looked to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Given his pedigree there might be another team that thinks he has something left in the tank, but regardless of whether he is claimed or goes to Triple-A, the 29-year-old righty won't be pitching in high-leverage spots anytime soon.
