Cardinals' Adams may miss rest of season after surgeon finds complete quad tear

Scott Rovak / USA TODAY Sports

Matt Adams went under the knife Friday to repair a quad tear, and the injury is worse than initially anticipated.

The surgeon found a complete tear of his right quad, which could extend his recovery time past the initial four-month diagnosis, and put his season in jeopardy.

The Cardinals may now be forced to look at trading for a first baseman - such as Ryan Howard - if they're serious about making a playoff push. Mark Reynolds will continue to get the bulk of playing time in the meantime.

Adams suffered the injury while running the bases Tuesday in a game with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
