(SportsNetwork.com) - Zack Greinke may be winless (0-1) in his previous three starts, but has only given up a total of three runs in that span.
Greinke will try to pitch the Los Angeles Dodgers to a three-game sweep of the Atlanta Braves when he takes the mound Wednesday in his 10th start. Greinke opened the season 5-0 with a 1.56 earned run average through six starts and is trying to get back in the win column.
The right-hander recorded a no-decision in Friday's 2-1 win over San Diego and delivered 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts and one walk. He has allowed one run in each of his last three appearances for the Dodgers, who are 7-2 when he pitches. Greinke has a 5-1 mark overall and a 1.48 earned run average, which is second in the major leagues.
In six starts at Dodger Stadium this season, Greinke is 2-1 with a 2.29 ERA. He is 7-1 with a 1.97 ERA in 12 career starts against NL East opponents since joining the Dodgers in 2013. Greinke has made four career starts against the Braves, going 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA.
Los Angeles ace Clayton Kershaw had no trouble with Atlanta in Tuesday's 8-0 win and the left-hander struck out 10 batters in seven shutout innings. He scattered four hits with no walks and bounced back from a rough outing in San Francisco on May 21, when he gave up four runs in 7 1/3 innings.
"For me personally, the curveball was a lot better than it was in San Francisco," said Kershaw. "The slider was hit or miss at times ... but overall, it was better for sure."
Adrian Gonzalez hit a two-run homer and eclipsed the 1,000-RBI mark in his career, while Andre Ethier also drove in two runs for Los Angeles, which has won two straight and four of five.
The Dodgers are 21-6 at home and sit two games ahead of the Giants for the NL West lead. After hosting the Braves, the Dodgers will visit St. Louis and Colorado for seven games.
Atlanta entered this 10-game, 10-day western sojourn winners in seven of its last nine games, but Dodger Stadium hasn't been too kind.
Julio Teheran drew the start for the visiting Braves Tuesday and was torched for eight runs and 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings.
"These guys swing the bat real well," said Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez. "(Teheran's) execution wasn't as good as we've seen him."
Nick Markakis had three of Atlanta's five hits on the night.
The Braves still have San Francisco and Arizona to visit on this trip, and will hand the ball to Alex Wood Wednesday. Wood missed his last start because of an illness and is looking toward facing the Dodgers.
"Each day has been a little bit better," Wood said Tuesday. "I threw a bullpen yesterday and played catch today. I think by tomorrow night I'll be ready to go."
Wood prevailed his last time out in a 5-3 decision at Miami on May 16 and allowed two runs (1 earned) in seven innings. He was 0-2 in his previous six outings and has a 2-2 record with a 3.83 ERA in eight starts. The left-hander has no record and a 0.93 ERA in three career games (1 start) against L.A.
Wood is 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA in five road starts this season.
Los Angeles has won 10 of the last 11 meetings with Atlanta and the two clubs will square off for three games at Turner Field in late July.
