MLB Game Summary - San Diego at LA Angels of Anaheim

Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Matt Kemp cleared the bases with a three-run double to break a scoreless tie in the top of the 10th inning to lead the San Diego Padres in a 4-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday.

Jedd Gyorko singled to start the 10th-inning rally and Yangervis Solarte and Will Venable drew one-out walks to load the bases. Justin Upton, who entered with seven game-winning RBI this season, struck out swinging for the second out, but Kemp delivered a liner down the left field line off Joe Smith (1-2) to plate all three runners.

"Joe usually keeps the ball down, but he got it up a little bit and Kemp didn't miss it," said Angels manager Mike Scioscia.

Derek Norris blooped a single into right off Vinnie Pestano to plate Kemp and extend the lead to 4-0.

Craig Kimbrel took care of the 10th to make a winner out of Dale Thayer (1-0), who finished the bottom of the ninth.

"Real happy for (Kemp)," said Padres manager Bud Black. "He's been going through some trials and tribulations, but he's never wavered. He's never backed off."

Osdrisamer Despaigne allowed just five hits in six innings for San Diego, while his counterpart, Matt Shoemaker, limited the Padres to four hits while striking out six over seven innings of work.

LA's biggest threat came in the top of the first, when two-out singles by Albert Pujols and Kole Calhoun put runners on the corners. But Despaigne got David Freese to line out to first and end the inning.

Shoemaker twirled a gem, but pitched himself into a jam in the fourth. Upton reached on an infield single, Kemp knocked a base hit into left and Norris walked to load the bases with one out. Shoemaker settled down and struck out Cory Spangenberg before getting Will Middlebrooks to ground into a fielder's choice.

Fernando Salas had to pitch out of trouble when he relieved Shoemaker in the top of the eighth. Kemp had an opportunity to put his team in front but struck out looking with two on and two outs.
