Chicago Cubs rookie Kris Bryant extended his career-best hitting streak to 10 games in dramatic fashion Thursday evening at Petco Park, launching a two-run home run in the first inning of his club's series finale against the San Diego Padres.

After spending his collegiate years at the University of San Diego, the 23-year-old admitted this week it was "a little surreal" to step into the box at a stadium where he used to park himself in the right-field bleachers to attend Padres games.

Perhaps the only thing more surreal, though, is the success Bryant has enjoyed through the incipient stages of his career. Heading into Thursday's game, Bryant had compiled a ridiculous .414/.500/.793 line with three home runs and seven walks since his hitting streak began back on May 11.
