Manager Walt Weiss suggested Tuesday that Hawkins' (biceps) isn't close to rejoining the Rockies, the Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

Hawkins has made two appearances for Triple-A Albuquerque as part of a rehab assignment, but only covered 1.2 innings across both outings and was lit up for two runs on four hits and walk. It sounds like the Rockies want Hawkins to string together a few strong showings in a row before they bring him back into a bullpen that could sorely use some reinforcement. The 42-year-old would likely become one of the team's better setup options, but there doesn't seem to be much motivation to slot him back in as closer while John Axford continues to excel in that role.
