Astros GM: Top prospect Carlos Correa to be promoted to Triple-A
Carlos Correa is inching closer to making his big-league debut.
The Houston Astros' top prospect will make the jump from Double-A to Triple-A in the next week or two, according to general manager Jeff Luhnow.
Correa is slashing an impressive .398/.468/.735 in 24 games with Corpus Christi, which suggests the shortstop is more than ready to face greater competition in the higher ranks of the minors.
Luhnow previously stated he wouldn't hesitate to promote the 20-year-old prospect directly from Double-A at some point this season.
There was speculation Correa would get the call to the bigs after Jed Lowrie tore a ligament in his right thumb late last month, but the club is electing to use Marwin Gonzalez and Jonathan Villar as replacements for now.
