Mariners send Jackson to DL with sprained ankle; recall Taylor from Triple-A

Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Mariners outfielder Austin Jackson was placed on the disabled list Monday after spraining his right ankle trying to run out a ground ball.

Jackson suffered the injury during the third inning of Sunday's game against the Houston Astros when he turned his ankle at first base.

The transaction was one of several roster moves made by the Mariners on Monday. Seattle also recalled shortstop Chris Taylor and selected the contract of Joe Beimel from Triple-A Tacoma, while designating Mike Kickham for assignment.

Taylor, 24, was competing for the starting shortstop job this spring with Brad Miller before breaking his right wrist when he was hit by a pitch. Taylor, who's in Monday's lineup against the Los Angeles Angels, hit .287/.347/.346 with eight doubles and five steals in 47 games as a rookie last year.
