Monday Sports In Brief

CLEVELAND (AP) NBA PLAYOFFS

Cavaliers forward Kevin Love will miss at least the team's next playoff series with a dislocated left shoulder, a damaging blow to Cleveland's NBA title hopes.

Love was hurt in the first quarter of Sunday's win over Boston as the Cavs completed a first-round series sweep. He got his left arm locked with Celtics forward Kelly Olynyk while chasing a loose ball. Olynyk yanked down on Love's arm and his shoulder popped out of its socket joint.

The Cavs said Love sustained a torn ligament and bruising. He is seeking additional medical opinions.

Cleveland acquired Love in a blockbuster trade last summer with Minnesota, teaming him with All-Stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving to give the Cavs a ''Big 3'' capable of winning a championship.

In his first postseason as a pro, Love is averaging 14.3 points and seven rebounds. Love made six 3-pointers in Cleveland's Game 3 win.

BASEBALL

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Josh Hamilton is back with the Texas Rangers.

After two troublesome years with the Los Angeles Angels and less than halfway through a $125 million, five-year contract, Hamilton was traded to AL West rival Texas with cash on Monday for a player to be named or cash.

The Angels are expected to pay most of the remaining $80.2 million Hamilton is owed.

Hamilton never reported to the Angels this season after offseason right shoulder surgery. He self-reported a relapse of alcohol and cocaine use, but an arbitrator ruled he could not be disciplined by Major League Baseball.

Hamilton was the 2010 AL MVP and an All-Star in each of his five seasons with Texas from 2008-12. He struggled with injuries and lack of performance with the Angels.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright will miss the rest of the season because of a torn left Achilles tendon.

Wainwright will have surgery later this week, likely Thursday, and recovery time is generally 9-to-12 months.

''Unfortunate news, but not unexpected after what we saw,'' St. Louis general manager John Mozeliak said before the Cardinals played Philadelphia.

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard also had a similar injury, sustained on the final out of the 2011 Division Series against St. Louis. Howard missed the first half of the following season.

''Totally been there,'' Howard said.

Wainwright was hurt while batting Saturday in Milwaukee. This is the second major injury of Wainwright's career. The right-hander missed the 2011 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Dodgers pitcher Brandon McCarthy will miss the rest of the season with a torn elbow ligament, creating a hole in the middle of the rotation for a Los Angeles team with World Series aspirations.

McCarthy left Saturday's game at San Diego in the sixth inning when he gave up his third home run of the night in an 11-8 victory. He had an MRI that revealed a torn ulnar collateral ligament, ending his first season with the Dodgers after four starts.

The slim right-hander was 3-0 despite a 5.87 ERA and nine home runs allowed in 23 innings. The 10-year veteran, who turns 32 on July 7, signed a $48 million, four-year contract with the Dodgers in December after spending last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees.

McCarthy was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, retroactive to April 26. Left-hander Adam Liberatore was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City.

GOLF

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Rory McIlroy arrived at Harding Park on Monday knowing he'll be at the Match Play Championship at least until Friday.

So will the rest of the 64-man field.

In a format change to avoid the single elimination that often sent big names home early, the Match Play will be round robin featuring 16 groups of four players. The best record from each group advances to the round of 16 on Saturday morning for a full weekend of golf.

There was one more twist. The groups were based on a lottery.

McIlroy wound up getting Brandt Snedeker, Billy Horschel and Jason Dufner in his group. Masters champion Jordan Spieth is with Lee Westwood, Matt Every and Mikko Ilonen of Finland. Ilonen got in when Phil Mickelson chose not to play.
