Bryant pleased to rebound from 1st error with Cubs win

CHICAGO (AP) Kris Bryant was pleased to rebound from his first major league error with a good day at the plate and a Chicago Cubs' win.

Bryant misplayed a leadoff grounder, then got a standing ovation for his first major league hit and reached base five times Saturday in a 7-6, 11-inning win over the San Diego Padres.

''The tone wasn't really set with me making an error,'' he said Sunday. ''We came back from it. I kind of let that go. It's part of the game and I ended up having a good game and I got the hit. That was fun.''

Bryant went 2 for 3 with three walks then rushed off to have dinner with family and friends. With the Cubs trailing 2-1 in the fifth, he hit a broken-bat single off the end of his bat into short center to drive in the tying run, earning a big cheer from the 33,958 fans at Wrigley Field. He also had an infield single in the 11th inning off Craig Kimbrel, moving the eventual winning run to third base.

''I am here to help the team win any way possible. I was glad that I got that knock yesterday,'' Bryant said. ''We're a team here and I am just a small part of it. Everybody here played a good game yesterday.''

The victory celebration after Starlin Castro's single was a new experience. Anthony Rizzo orchestrated a locker room disco environment.

''Coming into the clubhouse I saw smoke. The lights were turned off and the lights were going everywhere, blinking,'' Bryant said. ''`What is going on in here.' It kind of caught me off guard, but it was super fun. Anthony kept me after, `That was fun, wasn't?' `Yeah, that was a whole lot of fun. Let's do that a lot this year.' I sure hope to be partying in the disco clubhouse a lot this year.''
