Ervin Santana was in the news for all the wrong reasons Wednesday.

The Minnesota Twins right-hander is being sued by a Miami-based jeweler after he allegedly defaulted on $40,000 worth of customized necklaces, according to the Brian Murphy of the Pioneer Press.

Major League Jewelers Inc. claims in a seven-page complaint that Santana defamed the company by calling the necklaces fake. Santana's attorney, Darren Heitner, has countered by denying the allegations and arguing his client didn't receive the shipment he specifically ordered.

"Our position is that we did not receive what we bargained for," Heitner said. "My client asked for specific jewelry and he did not receive what he bargained for."

A hearing is scheduled for April 16, but Santana isn't required to attend.

The jeweler provides other major-league stars with bling, including Hanley Ramirez, Marlon Byrd, CC Sabathia and Edwin Jackson.
