Rangers' Scheppers could start year on DL

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers reliever Tanner Scheppers (ankle) could be forced to begin the season on the disabled list, The Dallas Morning News reports.

Analysis:

Scheppers went in for an MRI Monday, indicating that his ankle was still a bit sore. He's only pitched 3.2 innings in "A" games this spring, and would likely need to get in some more work in the final week before the season to be ready. If he ends up on the DL, Scheppers would be eligible to return April 11. When available, he's expected to serve as the Rangers' primary setup man in 2015, and could be in line for saves should Neftali Feliz falter or suffer an injury.
