Rays place Colome on 15-day DL

Anthony Gruppuso / USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays will be without right-hander Alex Colome for the better part of April.

Colome was placed on the disabled list Saturday and while he won't be eligible to come off until April 11, the Rays don't believe he'll be ready for another week or two after, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times

The 26-year-old, who went 2-0 with a 2.66 ERA in five appearances last season, was hospitalized earlier this month with pneumonia and has yet to pitch this spring.

It's been an unfortunate couple of weeks for the Rays' rotation, who have also seen Drew Smyly and Alex Cobb suffer injuries that will delay the start of their season.
