Report: Mets seeking left-handed relief help from Dodgers, Rockies

Howard Smith / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Mets are in the market for a left-handed reliever and appear to be turning to some of their National League rivals for help.

General manager Sandy Alderson and Co. are reportedly keeping an eye on three Los Angeles Dodgers relievers - J.P. Howell, Paco Rodriguez and Adam Liberatore.

Colorado Rockies southpaw Rex Brothers is also being closely monitored by the Mets, as is Brian Matusz of the Baltimore Orioles.

Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors speculated that Matusz and Rodriguez may be the easiest for New York to acquire in a potential deal. Matusz, who posted a 3.48 ERA in 63 appearances last year, is being shopped due to a surplus of left-handers in Baltimore, while Rodriguez was limited to only 14 major-league innings in 2014 and pitched predominantly in Triple-A.

The Mets, of course, are short a lefty after Josh Edgin's season-ending Tommy John surgery.
