Myers could be a candidate for the leadoff spot in the Padres' lineup, Jeff Sanders of the Union-Tribune reports.

Analysis:

Myers isn't a prototypical leadoff hitter, but the Padres don't have a lot of other options. Manager Bud Black said that Yangervis Solarte, Will Venable, and Cameron Maybin will be the other potential leadoff men, but Myers is the only one on the list that is going to be an everyday starter. Myers has 11 career at-bats as a leadoff man, where he has gone 2-for-11 (.182) with three strikeouts and a .182 OBP. It's not often you see a player speculated to play center field and lead off while also seeing that same player as a possibility at first base. Myers' positional situation is still fluid and depends on how the multitude of players acquired by the Padres work out. He's definitely still a starter despite his rough 2014 (.222/.294/.320), but it's impossible to tell what stat categories he'll reliably fill in 2015. As it stands, Myers will likely be the leadoff man unless Solarte wins the starting job at third base over Will Middlebrooks.
