Johan Santana has been ruled out from pitching in the remainder of the Venezuelan Winter League championship series, the left-hander's agent said Tuesday.

Santana, who had been auditioning for an invite to spring training, was scratched from his most recent outing after experiencing shoulder discomfort. A subsequent MRI on Santana revealed no structural damage.

Santana's agent, Peter Greenberg, told Jon Morosi of FOX Sports that the free-agent pitcher could still throw for interested MLB clubs.

The 35-year-old's comeback efforts have been stalled the last two seasons after missing all of 2013 due to shoulder surgery and then tearing his Achilles tendon last June.

Santana has reportedly drawn interest this winter from several major league clubs, including the New York YankeesSan Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays.
