Gallo has received an invite from the Rangers to participate in their major league spring training, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Analysis:

With only half a season at Double-A under his belt, the 21-year-old Gallo doesn't have a realistic shot at cracking the big league roster out of camp. If nothing else, the invite gives him a chance to audition in front of new manager Jeff Banister while perhaps speeding up his arrival to the majors if he excels at Double-A Frisco in the early part of 2015. With 42 homers across two levels last season, Gallo possesses as much power as any prospect in the minors, but is far from a complete hitter. He struck out in 39.5 percent of his plate appearances over his 68 games with Frisco last season, raising questions if he'll be able to make enough contact at the next level to take advantage on his ample home-run potential.
