Reds manager confident Votto will be 'ready to go' this season

Cincinnati Reds manager Bryan Price is optimistic regarding the health of first baseman Joey Votto heading into spring training, after the four-time All-Star missed 100 games last season due to a quadriceps strain.

"The last report when (strength and conditioning coach) Sean (Marohn) was up in Toronto earlier this month was very, very good," Price told Mark Sheldon of MLB.com

"The strength was outstanding, the stamina was good and the agility. Right now, we're looking to hit the ground running when Joey gets to Goodyear (Ballpark) and being able to see with our own eyes where he's at. I'm confident that he's going to be ready to go."

The 31-year-old battled injuries throughout last season, resulting in a career-worst .255/.390/.409 line in 62 games.

Votto agreed to a 10-year, $225 million contract extension in 2012 and will see his salary jump from $14 million to $20 million in 2015.
