Dodgers' Anderson: 'I should be good to go come spring training'

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed left-hander Brett Anderson to a one-year deal in December, just months after he underwent season-ending back surgery, but the oft-injured 26-year-old announced Wednesday he expects to be ready when spring training opens.

"I feel good," Anderson told J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News. "I've been throwing with Max Scherzer and some other guys at Fischer Sports (a physical therapy institute in Phoenix). I should be good to go come spring training."

Anderson, who logged just eight starts for the Colorado Rockies last season, intends to start throwing off a mound next week after spending much of the offseason rehabbing his back.

"I'm doing a bunch of core stuff nobody likes to do," Anderson said. "I won't have a 6-pack but I’m trying to strengthen everything possible."

Anderson finished sixth in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2009, but hasn't logged more than 50 innings in a single season since 2011, when he crafted a 4.00 ERA over 83 1/3 frames for the Oakland Athletics.
