Zack Cozart agreed to a one-year, $2.35 million contract with the Reds on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports.

Cozart agreed to a one-year, $2.35 million contract with the Reds on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports.

Analysis:

As good as Cozart was in the field last season (12.1 UZR), he was equally bad at the plate, as evidenced by his 61 OPS+. He hit above .250 in just one month of the season, and finished with a .172/.213/.276 batting line in September. The Reds acquired shortstop Eugenio Suarez from the Tigers in December, and while Cozart figures to keep the starting job to open the year, he'll have to perform at a higher level to maintain his spot in the lineup.
