Cashner and the Padres avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.05 million contract Friday, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports.

Analysis:

Cashner was limited to just 19 starts last season, but he shined when he was on the mound, posting a 2.55 ERA. He doesn't put up the strikeout totals one would expect from a pitcher with his fastball, but he does not walk many batters either. He heads into the 2015 season as the Padres' ace.
