Agent: Orioles' Wieters will be ready by Opening Day

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Scott Boras is optimistic that his client, Baltimore Orioles catcher Matt Wieters, will be ready for Opening Day, according to the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo.

The Orioles catcher is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Boras' comments come a few days after manager Buck Showalter projected Wieters to be ready close to the start of the season.

Prior to going under the knife, the South Carolina native slashed .308/.339/.500 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 26 games.

The Orioles open the 2015 season against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 6.
