Michael Morse on playing in Miami: 'It's a dream come true'

Michael Morse drove in the go-ahead run during the San Francisco Giants' Game 7 World Series win. He followed it up by securing a multiyear deal worth at least $16 million in free agency.

A day after joining his hometown Miami Marlins, Morse is still pinching himself.

"Not only to play at home, but to be able to play first base every day," Morse said during the club's introductory press conference Friday. "It's been proven in my career that I'm a better first baseman than I am a left fielder. With this opportunity to play first base and to play at home, it's a dream come true."

Morse boasts 179 career games at first but has never held down a full-time job at the position. The 10-year veteran said he's looking forward to bringing his championship pedigree to a club that's aggressively retooled its roster this offseason.

"It's very rare for a player to be in that situation," Morse said, referring to the Marlins' title aspirations. "It's an opportunity I take pretty seriously. I can't wait to get going."

Morse was joined Friday at Marlins Park by recent acquisitions - and fellow Florida natives - Mat Latos and Dee Gordon. Marlins general manager Dan Jennings hopes the trio's homecoming is the gift that keeps on giving.

"Talk about Christmas coming early," Jennings said. "This is a great Florida trifecta here. It made us smile as we were putting this together."
