Just days after introducing left-hander Jon Lester, the Chicago Cubs added the catcher who was so instrumental to his success over the past two seasons to their roster.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, the Cubs agreed Friday to a two-year, $5-million deal with David Ross, who was also thought to be mulling an offer from the San Diego Padres.
Ross, a 13-year veteran, is poised to take over as backup to newly acquired catcher Miguel Montero, and will likely start behind the plate whenever Lester takes the mound. Though his offense continued to wane last season, Ross remains a strong defender and ranked among the league's best pitch-framers in 2014.
