Myers trade official: Rays announce 3-team, 11-player deal

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Rays announced Friday the completion of the largest trade in franchise history.

Wil Myers is now a member of the San Diego Padres after the Rays and Washington Nationals finalized the blockbuster three-team, 11-player deal.

The figure above identifies 10 of the players originally reported to be involved in the trade, with the exception of the Padres' 2014 first-round draft pick Trea Turner. Major League Baseball has rules in place regarding the movement of draft picks, resulting in Turner's inclusion as the "Player to be Named Later."

From Baseball America's JJ Cooper:

Before the 1986 draft, baseball added rule 3(b)7 that no draftee could be traded until a year after he signed. By doing so, it ensured that no one could hold out to be traded to a preferred team. When a player to be named is included in a deal, the teams have six months to resolve that player to be named, so effectively, no draftee can be traded until six months after they are signed.

MLB's official Twitter account, however, named Turner as the player included in the deal. For a detailed breakdown of the trade, see the story below.
