Rangers officially sign Kyuji Fujikawa
The Texas Rangers have signed Japanese reliever Kyuji Fujikawa to a one-year deal with a club option for 2016.
Texas announced the deal Tuesday.
Fujikawa spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Cubs, but missed much of that time after Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery in June 2013. He had 27 appearances with a 5.04 ERA with the Cubs. He had 31 strikeouts and eight walks in 25 innings
His deal with the Rangers includes a $1 million base salary for 2015, plus incentives.
Before the Cubs, Fujikawa spent 12 seasons with the Hanshin Tigers, compiling a record of 42-25 with 220 saves and a 1.77 ERA.
Texas also signed first baseman Kyle Blanks and Tommy Field to minor league contracts with invitations to major league spring training.
